We invite speakers to talk on all aspects of Bromley and surrounding areas. We meet in the URC Hall, Widmore Road, Bromley, on the first Tuesday of the month at 10.30 and the cost is £1.50 per meeting. All U3A members are very welcome.

Our Programme of Speakers for 2017 is as follows:

January  3rd  – Garry Wykes;  “Treasures and the Tower”      

February 7th  – Bernard Lockett:  “Social and Political Satire of Gilbert & Sullivan”

March 7th  – Antonia Gallop:  “A Gallop through the History of Carriage Driving”   Antonia has been around horses all her life, firstly earning a living  training and producing for commercial work such as  weddings and film work to enjoying showing them in their antique vehicles at National level. 

Now working as a qualified interpreter for deaf people, carriage horses remain her passion supporting and encouraging fellow carriage drivers as Area Commissioner for The British Driving Society.

July 7th  –  Siobhan E Clarke:  “Hampton Court Pleasure Palace: the story of two palaces”

Siobhan Elizabeth Clarke has a BA in Modern History. She works as a professional historian, guide and lecturer and has appeared on PBS television and Radio 4 'Women's Hour'. She has worked for Historic Royal Palaces, as a Guide Lecturer, for fifteen years and is based at Hampton Court Palace.

September 5th - Lesley Tipler "History of Dartford College"       

October 3rd  –  Patrick Hellicar: “In Dora's Footsteps - an armchairwalk based on the author Miss Read's schooldays at Chelsfield"  

It enlarges on her book "Time Remembered" which recalls her schooldays at Chelsfield in the early 1920s.  The illustrated talk revisits places she describes, comparing scenes she was familiar with in her childhood and how they appear today, and "colours in" many of the characters featured in the book with much new information and previously-unseen photographs.    

 November 7th  – Bob Ogley: “Spirit of Invicta”    

December 5th  – Andy Thomas:  “A Celebratory History of Christmas”
