Bromley u3a Christmas Social

Tuesday 17th December was a grey, damp day, but Bromley still managed to appear festive and for those members attending the Christmas Social it was a joyfully convivial morning. The events team had worked hard to make the hall at Bromley Library look Christmassy with colourful table decorations and crackers. There was an air of eager anticipation as ticket holders started to queue from soon after 10.00 and by 10.30 over 120 members, many wearing festive jumpers, were seated in the hall.

Some slightly modified photographs formed the basis of a captions competition (results and photos on the website) and Ray Currier kicked off the Christmas activities with quite a challenging Christmas Quiz. Who knew that Lambswool refers to the traditional Christmas drink of apples in mulled ale, or that Marsh Whorts are found in cranberry sauce? The winners richly deserved their chocolate prizes

Tea, coffee and Buck’s Fizz followed as groups tucked into their Christmas picnics and pulled their crackers. Ray then continued with a game of Christmas song bingo which was equally challenging and there was much singing along to the tunes people recognised and head-scratching at the more obscure ones. Finally the raffle was drawn and ten lucky people walked away with M&S vouchers or u3a Christmas diaries before Angela wished everyone farewell and looked forward to a happy, healthy 2025.

All good things must come to an end and as a hall full of bubbly guests drifted away, the events team set about clearing up………the party’s over, it’s time to call it a day….until next time.
