The Southbury Child at Bromley Little Theatre
10th November 2024
A group of 38 members attended the Saturday matinee of Bromley Little Theatre on Saturday 9 November. This play by Stephen Beresford premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2022 and later ran at The Bridge Theatre. The author is known for exploring family and community dynamics and both this play and “The last of the Haussmans” delve into themes from his Devon roots. The Southbury Child is the second of a planned trilogy.
The Bromley Little Theatre production is directed by Mike Darbon and is his seventh production at the theatre. The play is thought provoking and was well acted. The lead role of vicar, David Highland played by Chris Cullen was convincing as an Anglican vicar with strong held views but troubling behaviours. Other cast members also gave strong performances, and the play unfolds with David becoming isolated by both local opinion and his family.
Thank you once again Bromley Little Theatre for an entertaining afternoon. Please let me know if you would like to attend our monthly Saturday afternoon matinees.
